Endowment
List
What is an endowment? Quite simply, it is a perpetual
fund that provides annual income to support one or more scholarships
or academic programs. The endowments listed below exist because
of the generosity of Northeastern alumni and friends. These permanent
funds are critical to NSU;s success in recruiting and retaining
top quality students.

Dean L.P. Woods Endowed Lectureship for
Mathematics
In 2000, Dr. L.P. Woods Jr. and his wife, Ann, funded this endowed
lectureship in honor of his father, Dean L.P. Woods. Dean Woods
founded the initial chapter of Kappa Mu Epsilon, now a nationwide
Mathematics Honor Society, at Northeastern. Income generated
by this endowment supports NSU's mathematics department.
William Frank Tolbert Endowed Chair
In November 1998 the William Frank Tolbert Endowed Chair
in the College of Business and Industry was funded by Mr. Tolbert
through his estate. Proceeds from this chair support outstanding
programs in the finance and accounting disciplines.
Southwestern Bell Endowed Lectureship for
the Performing Arts
In 1989, Southwestern Bell funded this lectureship to provide
support to the university in bringing nationally recognized lecturers
and performers to the campus.
Freddie Lou Etter Library Endowment
In 1988, Freddie Lou Etter established this endowment to assist
Northeastern's John Vaughan Library in providing excellent
and accessible learning resources for students and faculty.
Dr. Feron G. Waters Library Endowment
Established in April 2000 by Barbara Jean Carson Waters in memory
of her husband, this endowment provides support to NSU's John
Vaughan Library.
Jones/Mershon Property Endowment
In 1973, John B. and Lucy M. Jones gifted a 90-acre
tract of land in Cherokee County to the university. In 1999,
an estate gift from the Jones' created an endowment that produces
income to support the maintenance and use of the acreage.
Lena Seitz Robertson Lectureship
Established in 1987, income from the Lena Seitz Robertson endowment
helps support a lectureship in social work.
Literacy Center
This endowment was established in 1991 to provide support
for the Literacy Center.
Charles A. and E. Anne McWilliams Scholarship
This scholarship endowment was created in 2001 and provides
scholarship support for Broken Arrow High School graduates attending
NSU's Broken Arrow campus.
Norman and Mary John Hill Scholarship
This fund, established in 2001, funds President's Leadership
Class scholarships.
Dr. Daniel Hansen Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship endowment for students majoring in a mathematics-related
discipline was established in 2001 in memory of long-time NSU
professor of Mathematics, Dr. Dan Hansen, by his family and
a host of friends.
Zula Belle Dobbins Memorial Scholarship
This endowment was funded in 2001 in memory of Zula
Belle by her family and many friends.
Mike Synar Endowment
This endowment established in 2001 by family and friends honors
the memory of U.S. Congressman Mike Synar. It supports the
Mike Synar Center located on the NSU-Muskogee campus.
Descendants of the Cherokee Seminaries
Students Scholarship
Established in 2001, this scholarship endowment was created by
lineal descendants of students who attended the National Cherokee
Male and Female Seminaries.
Dr. Valgene Littlefield Debate Scholarship
This account, endowed in 2001, funds scholarships for
NSU's intercollegiate debate students.
Stacy Michelle Taylor Memorial Scholarship
Endowed in 2001 in memory of Stacy by her family and
a host of friends, this scholarship supports education majors
specializing in early childhood or elementary instruction.
University Services Scholarship
Funded by a number of NSU employees, this endowment supports
student scholarships.
Marjorie Hensley Bright Scholarship
This scholarship endowment was created in 2001 to support
students in the NSU College of Optometry.
Bricks and Windows Scholarship Fund
Supported by many alumni and friends, this endowment
supports student scholarships.
Louise Covey Ballard Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship created by family and friends of Mrs. Louise
Ballard supports NSU's Honors Program.
NSU Memorial Bench Fund
This endowment, created in 2001, maintains the privately-funded
memorial benches placed throughout the historic Tahlequah campus.
Mary Tennessee Lynn Smith Memorial Scholarship
Established through an estate gift by her granddaughter, Kathlyeen
Burnett, the Mary Tennessee Lynn Smith Memorial Scholarship
supports students from throughout northeastern Oklahoma.
Anonymous Donor Scholarship
In April 2000, an anonymous donor funded this scholarship endowment
that supports students intending to become classroom teachers.
Roy and Cherrie McSpadden Hinds Memorial
Scholarship
In December 2000, Mary Ellen Williamson funded this scholarship
endowment in honor of her parents, both of whom were graduates
of the Northeastern Normal School. The income supports Cherokee
students studying a variety of academic disciplines.
Wesley "Dub" Berry
Memorial Scholarship
Darrell and Sandra Sullenger funded this scholarship endowment
in September 2000 in memory of Wesley "Dub" Berry,
one of Northeastern's finest all-around athletes. This endowment
produces income supporting athletic scholarships.
Fred Dupy Scholarship
This endowment was established to support scholarships
for students from throughout northeastern Oklahoma.
Debbie (Wing) Garrett Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship endowment was created in memory of
Debbie (Wing) Garrett, long-time NSU librarian, by her family
and friends. The income from this endowment supports freshmen
students who are Tahlequah High School graduates.
Mary Jane Craig Letts and Ray Don Letts
Scholarship
This endowment was created in October 2000 to provide scholarship
support for freshmen Cherokee students with financial need.
Teacher Education Scholarship
Established in March 2000, this endowment supports scholarships
for students majoring in education.
Reba Starr Robison Keys High School Scholarship
Reba Starr Robison created this endowment to provide
scholarships for students graduating from Keys High School in
Keys, Oklahoma.
Charlie Murchison Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2000 in memory of the very talented Charlie
Murchison by his family and friends, this endowment will support
student scholarships.
Kiwanis Club of Tahlequah Scholarship
The Tahlequah Kiwanis Club created this endowment to
support scholarships for students from Cherokee County.
Anonymous Donor PLC Scholarship
An anonymous donor funded this scholarship to support
President’s Leadership Class ("PLC") scholarships.
Tom W. Johnson Memorial Scholarship
In September 1999, the family of Tom W. Johnson, former
Director of NSU’s Audio-Visual Department, funded this
scholarship endowment to support students from northeastern Oklahoma.
Charles Lafayette Ford Memorial Scholarship
During the Fall of 1999, a host of former students and
friends of Mr. Charles Lafayette Ford, long-time educator and
former superintendent of McCurtain High School, funded this scholarship
to assist NSU students graduating from McCurtain High School.
Lela Canada Scholarship
In December 1999, former students and student workers
of Mrs. Lela Canada, long-time nurse and Director of Student
Health Services at Northeastern, created this scholarship to
support nursing students.
John and Janice Carletti Endowment
This general endowment was established in 2000 by John
and Janice Carletti.
Diane Willis Endowment
This endowment was established by Dr. Diane Willis,
NSU Distinguished Alumnus, in 1999.
Dennis and Billie Letts Scholarship
In December 1999, this endowment was established to
provide scholarship support for students in the writing and performance
art areas.
Doris Ione Mills Stauss Memorial Scholarship
The children of Mrs. Doris Stauss created this scholarship
in honor of their mother. Scholarships will be provided for students
from Cherokee County in Oklahoma and Crawford County in Arkansas
studying education.
Dan Sullivan Scholarship
This endowment was created to fund President's Leadership
Class ("PLC") scholarships.
Wellon B. and Verna Dean Poe, and Betty
Lackey Hefner Scholarship
This endowment was established to fund PLC scholarships.
Todd and Jenine Hembree Scholarship
This scholarship endowment was created in 1999 to support
scholarships for students from Adair and Cherokee Counties.
Maurice and Clarice Turney Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1999 for students
majoring in mathematics.
Phyllis Garroutte Memorial Scholarship
This endowment, created in 1998 by the children of Mrs.
Phyllis Garroutte, provides scholarship support for graduates
of Tahlequah High School majoring in elementary education.
John H. Grubbs II Memorial Fund
This endowment was created in 1999 by a host of family
and friends of Mr. John H. Grubbs II to support NSU's intercollegiate
golf student athletes.
SINCO Scholarship Endowment
This endowment, funded by Bill and LuAnn Morris in honor
of Bill's father, provides scholarship support for minority students.
Ray T. McSpadden Memorial Endowment
This endowment fund was created in 1999 in memory of
Mr. Ray T. McSpadden by his family and many friends to support
NSU’s Women's Tennis Program.
W.C. and Mollie Sexton Memorial Scholarship
This memorial endowment in honor of W.C. and Mollie
Sexton was created by their daughter, Esther Sexton Moss, through
her will. Funded in 1999, this endowment supports PLC scholarships.
Lorraine L. Gunter Scholarship
This PLC scholarship endowment providing support for
students majoring in the sciences was funded by Mrs. Lorraine
L. Gunter through her trust in 1998.
Alice Davis Memorial Scholarship
In 1998, Veraman Davis, Mrs. Alice Davis' son, created
this scholarship endowment in her honor.
Bob Thomason Memorial Scholarship
This endowment in memory of Mr. Bob Thomason was established
by his close friend Dr.Tom Vanderpool and Mr. Thomason’s
family. The Thomason endowment is designed to support optometry
students.
Dr. Warren Gwartney Memorial Scholarship
Funded in 1998 by the Founders and Associates (formerly
known as the Founders of Doctors Hospital) in honor of Dr. Warren
Gwartney, this endowment provides scholarships for students preparing
for careers in medicine and other healthcare areas.
Elise Manus Chance Memorial Scholarship
This endowment has been created by Mrs. Elise Manus
Chance's sister, Mrs. Lucille M. Ketcher, to provide scholarship
support to students studying business or accounting.
James and Susie Coats Memorial Scholarship
This endowment was established in 1998 by the daughter
of James and Susie Coats, Belva C. Smith, to provide support
for Native American students.
William Frank Tolbert Memorial Scholarship
This endowment was funded in 1998 to support scholarships
for Native American students.
NSU Alumni Legacy Scholarship
Established in 1998 by the NSU Alumni Association, this
endowment provides scholarship support for incoming freshmen
students whose parents are NSU alumni.
President's Leadership Class Scholarship
This endowment supports the President's Leadership Class
("PLC") program.
Mike Fine Scholarship
Created in 1998, this endowment supports PLC scholarships.
Buffington / Caris / Shannon Scholarship
This endowment has been established by Ernie and Kay Shannon
in honor of their parents. PLC scholarships are provided by
this endowment.
Jack Kaufman Memorial Scholarships
Several endowments have been established in memory of Mr. Jack
Kaufman by his family and friends funding PLC scholarships.
Gene and Helen Branscum Scholarship
This endowment funds PLC scholarships.
Dr. Al Williams Scholarship
This scholarship endowment was established by colleagues,
family and friends of Dr. Al Williams, longtime NSU professor
and Vice-President for Academic Affairs, in connection with his
1998 retirement.
Dr. Everett Grigsby Memorial Scholarship
Funded in 1997 by family, friends and former students
of longtime NSU professor of biological sciences, Dr. Everett
Grigsby, this endowment provides scholarships for students majoring
in pre-medicine, science education and wildlife conservation.
Burl and Barbara Overmon Scholarship
This endowment was established in 1996 and supports
scholarships for students demonstrating initiative in a variety
of areas.
Castleberry Family Scholarship
This endowment was created in 1996 by Mr. Jack Castleberry
in honor of his parents, Kermit L. and Mary Alma Castleberry,
and his sisters, Rosemary and Connie. This endowment will support
scholarships for students majoring in business or education disciplines.
Darrell and Sandra Sullenger Scholarship
This scholarship was created to fund scholarships for
deserving students with financial need.
Jacob Farinelli / Joe Davis Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of two of
NSU's most talented musicians. Funded by friends, colleagues,
students, fellow band members, fans, and the families of Jacob
Farinelli and Joe Davis, this endowment provides scholarship
support for student musicians.
Shawntel Smith Scholarship
Established in 1996 in honor of Miss America and NSU
alumnus, Shawntel Smith, this scholarship endowment funds scholarships
for students majoring in marketing.
Belva Lester Scholarship
This scholarship endowment benefitting President's Leadership
Class students, was created in 1995 by Dr. Pat Lester in honor
of his mother, Mrs. Belva Lester.
James L. Lester, Sr. and James L. Lester,
Jr. Memorial Scholarship
Funded in 1997, this endowment in memory of father and
son, James L. Lester, Sr. and James L. Lester, Jr., supports
scholarships for pre-med students.
Tom and Joe Lester Scholarship
This scholarship was endowed in 1997 and funds scholarships
for students majoring in Criminal Justice.
James D. Ogletree Scholarship
Created in 1991, this endowment provides scholarships
for outstanding students in a variety of academic disciplines.
Phil Kirschner Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1994 by the Kirschner Trusts, this endowment
supports students raised in single parent households.
W. Gene Moffitt Memorial Accounting Scholarship
This scholarship was created in 1991 in memory of Mr.
W. Gene Moffitt by his colleagues, co-workers, friends and family.
This endowment supports students majoring in accounting.
American Indian Merit Award Scholarship
Established in 1977, this endowment provides scholarship
support for outstanding Native American students.
Southwest Contact Lens Society Scholarship
Funded by a gift from the Southwest Contact Lens Society
in 1995, this scholarship supports optometry students.
Vernon and Mary Helen Burrows Memorial
Scholarship
This endowment was created in 1995, by Don and Barbara
Coffman in honor of Barbara's parents, Vernon and Mary Helen
Burrows. Scholarships provided by this fund will support students
majoring in education.
Zoe Davis Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was endowed in 1995 by an estate gift from retired
NSU professor Zoe Davis to provide support to students studying
education.
Reba Starr Robison Scholarship
Established by Mrs. Reba Starr Robison in 1995, this
endowment provides scholarships for students graduating from
Stilwell High School.
Dr. Nadene Harris Memorial Scholarship
Established by retired NSU professor Dr. Nadene Harris
and funded by her estate, this scholarship provides scholarship
support to students majoring in the consumer sciences field.
Nancy Ward Scholarship
Funded in 1997 by Charles and Dolly Farris in honor
of their mothers, Flavia Griffith Farris and Nellie Sixkiller
Sanders, and named after the famous 19th Century Cherokee matriarch,
Nancy Ward, this endowment provides scholarship support for Native
American students studying nursing or social work.
Rex O. Presley Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1995 by Mrs. Ruth Presley in memory of
her husband, this scholarship endowment supports Native American
students.
Martha Harrington Memorial Nursing Scholarship
Established in memory of Mrs. Martha Harrington, this
endowment produces scholarships for nursing students.
Oral G. Sizemore Scholarship
This endowment was created by retired NSU Professor
Dr. Oral G. Sizemore and provides scholarship support for students
majoring in psychology.
Charlene Mason Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship fund, funded by family and friends
of Mrs. Charlene Mason, a longtime counselor in NSU’s Office
of Student Financial Services, supports freshmen graduating from
Wagoner, Hulbert, and/or Tahlequah High Schools.
Hazel McClure Vann Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1993 in memory of Mrs. Hazel McClure
Vann by her daughters, Virginia Vann Perry and Jean Vann, this
endowment supports students who are graduates of Cookson Hills
High School.
Ben Hollywood Ziegler Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1993 by James Leake and his family in
honor of a former employee, Ben Hollywood Ziegler, this scholarship
fund is available for minority freshmen.
Merle and Lucille Gilbert Farnsworth Memorial
Scholarship
Established in memory of two NSU professors, Drs. Merle
and Lucille Gilbert Farnsworth, this endowment supports President
Leadership Class ("PLC") scholarships.
George Wallace Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1988, this endowment provides PLC scholarships.
Faye Cunningham Memorial Scholarship
This PLC scholarship endowment was created in 1982,
by Faye Cunningham’s husband, BobCunningham.
Ella Sexton Harmon and Grover Harmon Memorial
Scholarship
Funded in 1990 in memory of Ella Sexton Harmon and Grover
Harmon, this endowment supports PLC scholarships.
Lucille Hurd Hitson Memorial Scholarship
This PLC scholarship endowment was established in 1981
by former NSU Foundation Board member, Mrs. Lucille Hurd Hitson.
Women in Optometry Scholarship
Funded in 1984, this endowment provides scholarship
support for women pursuing doctorates in Optometry.
Calvin Turnbow Scholarship
Established in 1985, by retired NSU professor, Dr. Calvin
Turnbow, this endowment supports scholarships for history students.
Evelyn R. Woods Thomson Memorial Stipend
This endowment, funded in 1993 by Dr. LP Woods and his
wife Ann, in memory of Dr. Woods' mother, Evelyn R. Woods, provides
scholarship support for teachers participating in NSU-related
academic programs abroad.
Buck Ballard Memorial Scholarship
Created in 1990, this endowment generates scholarships
for freshmen students who are graduates of Muskogee High School.
DeLoyd Reed Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1980, by 1958 national champion football
teammates of Mr. DeLoyd Reed, this endowment supports student
scholarships.
Marie Bishop Early Childhood / Elementary
Education Scholarship
Created by Mrs. Marie Bishop in 1989, this endowment
supports scholarships for students majoring in elementary education.
Christa Carlton Scholarship
This endowment was established by Ms. Christa Carlton
in 1987 and provides scholarship support for students who graduate
from Kansas High School.
Fannie Baker Memorial Scholarship
Funded in 1983 in memory of Mrs. Fannie Baker, this
endowment provides scholarship support for students involved
in the Baptist Student Ministries.
Dr. William M. Wilson Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1981, this endowment supports students
studying criminal justice.
John A. Morris Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was created by Louis Paul and Bettyjo
Morris in memory of Bettyjo's father, John A. Morris, and provides
scholarships for students with financial need.
George M. Hopkins Memorial Scholarship
Founded in 1984, this scholarship fund supports Okay
High School graduates.
Deborah Stauss Memorial Scholarship
Deborah Stauss' parents, Champ L. and Helen R. Stauss,
established this scholarship for business majors and optometry
students in 1987.
Dr. Dorothy Willey Memorial Scholarship
This endowment was funded in 1992 in memory of former
NSU Professor of Office Administration and Business Education,
Dr. Dorothy Willey, for students pursuing business education
degrees.
Dr. Richard B. Bullock Scholarship
In 1982, Mrs. Robert M. Bullock created this scholarship
in memory of her deceased husband and former NSU Assistant Professor
of Geography, Dr. Richard B. Bullock, to benefit students in
geography.
Jess and Gladys Grider Memorial Scholarship
Jess and Gladys Grider funded this endowment to provide
scholarships to freshmen who graduate from Chouteau High School.
Harry T. and Nancy A. VanHooser Memorial
Scholarship
This endowment was funded in 1990 by Mr. Howard VanHooser
to fund scholarships for deserving students.
Jerri Chandler Burrows Memorial Scholarship
In 1988, Mr. Burke Chandler initiated this scholarship
fund in memory of his sister, Mrs. Jerri Chandler Burrows, to
benefit graduates of Fort Gibson High School studying teacher
education.
Dorothy Frie Scholarship
This scholarship was created in 1989 by retired NSU
Professor, Dr. Dorothy Frie, to support female physical education
majors.
Society of Physics Students Scholarship
In 1988, this fund was created to provide scholarships
for physics students.
Kansas Children's Project Scholarship
Established in 1989, this fund supports scholarships
for Kansas High School graduates.
William H. Ballard Memorial Scholarship
Clifford B. and Helen Fleming established this PLC scholarship
in 1991 in memory of Clifford's grandfather, Mr. William H. Ballard.
Donald Ernest Maritt Scholarship
Mr. Donald Ernest Maritt funded this scholarship endowment
through an estate gift in 1999. This fund provides scholarship
support for students majoring in telecommunication-related fields.
General Library Fund
Established in 1991, this endowment is for use by the
John Vaughan Library
Kalbitz Endowment
Established in 1972, this endowment funds President's
Leadership Class scholarships.
Deem / Smith / deSteiguer Endowment
This endowment for the President’s Leadership
Class was established in 2001 by John and Darla deSteiguer.
Freda James Burtner PLC Endowment
This endowment which provides support for the President’s
Leadership Class was funded by Ms. Freda James Burtner through
her trust in 2002.
General Scholarship Endowment
Established in 1995, this endowment supports student scholarships.
Don and Fran Smith Scholarship
Don and Fran Smith established this endowment in 1989
to fund scholarships for students majoring in Meetings & Destination
Management.
Captain Terri Rains Memorial Scholarship
Establishing in 1986 by numerous family and friends,
and endowed in 2002, this scholarship endowment supports students
pursuing a commission through the NSU ROTC program.
Dr. Ron Carter Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1982 by Kathy Carter and her children
in memory of Dr. Ron Carter, this scholarship endowment supports
student scholarships in the College of Optometry.
Marjory Griffin Leake Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2002 by Helen "Gert" Clark
Hanan in memory of her lifelong friend, Marjory Griffin Leake,
this endowment supports scholarships for students of Native American
descent.
John and Marguerite Crittenden Memorial
Scholarship
Originally established in 1999 by John Crittenden in
memory of his wife, Marguerite, this scholarship endowment was
fully funded in 2002 to support scholarships for students from
Westville High School who intend to major in Elementary Education.
Dr. Sara Brown Scholarship
This endowment was established in 2002 by collegues,
friends, and former students of Dr. Sara Brown in honor of her
retirement from NSU to fund scholarships for students majoring
in social work-related disciplines.
Kenny Ramsdell Memorial Fund
Established in 2002 by Donna Ramsdell in memory of her
husband, this endowment supports NSU's golf program.
Kelly Koupe Memorial Scholarship
In 2002, this scholarship endowment was established
by Steve and Lynne Koupe in memory of their daughter, Kelly,
who died tragically at the age of 23. This endowment funds scholarships
for students from Rogers and Tulsa counties in Oklahoma majoring
in Early Childhood Education.
Bertie Craig Cooper Scholarship
Bertie Craig Cooper funded this endowment in 2002 to
provide scholarships to full-time students at NSU.
Bill Bright Scholarship
This endowment was established by Bill and Vonetta Bright
in 2002. Bill received NSU's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001.
Dr. Betty Ritch Lombardi Memorial Scholarship
Dr. C. L. Lombardi, along with numerous family and friends,
funded this endowment in 2003 to provide scholarships to full
time students at Northeastern State University majoring in English.
Optometry General Scholarship Fund
This endowment was funded in 2003 by the College of
Optometry to provide scholarships for their students.
James H. And Norma R. Blossom Memorial
Scholarship
In October 2003, this endowment was funded from the
James H. Blossom Charitable Remainder Trust and provides scholarships
for full-time students at NSU.
Dr. L. E. Wallen Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2003 by Diane Fitzgerald in memory of
her father, a former chair of the Chemistry Department, this
endowment supports scholarships for senior NSU students majoring
in chemistry.
James K. Howard Scholarship
Established in 1981 by Vice President for Administration,
Mr. Howard, and further funded by colleagues, family and friends
in connection with his 2003 retirement, this fund was created
to provide student scholarships.
Anonymous Donor Endowed Chair for Education
In April 2000, an anonymous donor funded this endowed
chair in the College of Education.
Wadley Family Account
Established in 2002 by Gregg Wadley and Dr. Betsy Brackett,
this endowment supports NSU athletics.
Corn/Stern Family Endowment
Established in 2002 by Pamela Stern, this endowment,
when fully funded will provide scholarships and endowed chairs
in the College of Business & Technology, the College of Optometry,
and the College of Math, Science and Nursing.
Entrepreneurship Program Endowment
Harold Battenfield and John Carletti established this
endowment in 2002 to support the College of Business & Technology’s
Entrepreneurial Lectureship Series.
Larry Reasor Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2004 in memory of Larry Reasor, this
endowment will support student scholarships.
Green Country Funeral Home Scholarship
This scholarship endowment established by the owner
of Green Country Funeral Home, David Dick, in 2004 supports scholarships
for students who have graduated from a high school in Cherokee
County, Oklahoma and who are involved in extracurricular activities
in their communities.
Lorena F. Walker Memorial Scholarship
Established with an estate gift in 2004 from Lorena
F. Walker, this endowment supports scholarships for students

NSU Alumni Association award at NSU's Homecoming Emerald Ball,

Larry Adair Lectureship

This quasi endowment was established in 2004 to honor
the retirement of Speaker of the House Larry Adair after 22 years
of service to District 86 in Oklahoma; this prestigious lectureship
presented each spring addresses current topics
in the study of politics, government, and public policy for scholars,
educators and the general public.
Nell Stapler Bradshaw II Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2005 with an estate gift, this endowment
supports scholarships for full-time students in good standing
at NSU who are involved in Northeastern’s women’s
basketball program.

This endowment was created in 2005 by Martha Dickerson

Pre-Med Scholarship
Established in 2005 by Dr. Edwin and Dorthene Pointer,
this endowment was created to assist pre-med majors in their
pursuit of undergraduate and graduate degrees.
Dr. George Nolan Pre-Med Scholarship
Established in 2006 by Dr. Gena Gray in honor of one
of her professors, Dr. George Nolan, this endowment was created
to assist pre-med students majoring in biology or chemistry.
Michael and Linda Nowicki Endowed Scholarship
for Non-traditional Students
This endowment was created in 2006 by Michael and Linda
Nowicki to be funded with their estate plan for scholarships
for students who are employed at least 20 hours per week and
have limited sources of income.

NSU band alumni, this fund provides support for the marching

Hank Van Veen Scholarship
This endowment, created in 2007 by family, friends,
optometry alumni, and colleagues to honor the retirement of Dr.
Hank Van Veen, will be used to advance the optometry profession.

Dr. John Marouk to provide funds to assist the College of Science
and Health Professions and prepare science majors for medical

Established in 2007 to honor the life of Optometry Faculty
member, Dr. Alison Lindorfer, who passed away from cancer, these
funds are used to advance the Optometry program at NSU.
Joy Blakemore Wiseley Memorial Scholarship
This endowment was created in 2007 by Peggy Cotton as
a memorial to her friend, the late Joy Marie Blakemore Wiseley,
who was employed in NSU's Office of Business Affairs, and will
fund scholarships to one or more full-time non- traditional female
senior students majoring in social work.
Wal-Mart Native American Logistics Endowed
Scholarship
Established in 2007, this endowment will provide funds
in the College of Business & Technology for the Supply Chain
Management program with preference given to Native American students.
Aaron K. Stern Memorial Scholarship
This endowment was created in 2007 in memory of Aaron K. Stern
to fund scholarships for students majoring in business with
preference given to students with learning disabilities.

Fain Endowed Book Scholarship
Established in 2007 by lifelong teacher, Roger Fain, to memorialize
his parents, this endowment will fund a book scholarship for
full-time students at NSU with a declared major who have graduated
from Tahlequah High School and have demonstrated unmet financial
need.
Dr. Larry and Pam Williams Endowed PLC
Scholarship
Established in 2008 to celebrate the accom-plishments and retirement
of NSU's 16th President, this scholarship will benefit the President's
Leadership Class scholarships.
Debbie Hicks Morgan PLC Scholarship
This endowment was established in 2008 in the memory of President’s
Leadership Class Alumnus Debbie Hicks Morgan to support the scholarship
fund.
Janet Sullivan Scholarship
This endowment supports student scholarships and was
established in 2001.
Broken Arrow Chamber of Commerce Scholarship
Established in 2008 with a gift from the Broken Arrow Chamber
of Commerce, this scholarship will support full-time junior
or senior undergraduates or graduates taking classes on
the NSU-BA campus who are residents of the greater Broken Arrow
area.
George K. Antoine Scholarship
In 2008, the Antoine Family endowed this financial need
scholarship in memory and inspiration of George K. Antoine, who
was determined to see his three daughters graduate from college.
The scholarship honors this humble man and his Cherokee heritage
by supporting Cherokee students majoring in a degree from the
College of Business & Technology.
L. L. Dockery Endowed Scholarship
Established in 2008 by L. Leon Dockery in honor of his family,
this scholarship ensures that future students that may not
have been at the top of their class will be able to attend
NSU and pursue a degree.
John Ross Endowed Scholarship
This endowment was established in 2008 by Mary Golda Ross, a
1928 graduate of NSU and the first Native American female engineer,
through her estate plan to benefit full-time Native American
students pursuing degrees in science or math with preference
given to Cherokee applicants.
AFVA Family Scholarship
Established in 2008 by Virginia LaQuey, this scholarship endowment
is for students in the College of Optometry with families.
